Healing Grief and Loss

Grief forces us to look at long submerged feelings of pain and loss, to recognize them, acknowledge them, and slowly accept them with tenderness towards ourselves. When we can truly enter our grief, we begin to see with more clarity our own ability to heal the past.

Each loss gifts us with the opportunity to heal every previous loss as well. In the profound feelings of separation and loss, we uncover our deeper feelings of polarity, the sense of “I and other” which may take us by surprise. As we see these deeper patterns of grief, we are set free as we acknowledge them and forgive ourselves. As we allow the mind to let go and move deeper into our heart and body-mind, we see the power of opening ourselves to our pain with mercy and awareness. It’s important to remember that the healing is like all of life; it ebbs and flows.  We may find days of peace and openness, a sense of connection one day, and awaken the next morning awash in the pain again, our heart constricted. That is when compassion towards self and trust that the pain is necessary for healing will carry you through. Excerpt from the Self Guided Course: Healing Grief and Loss.
